A Gaming Curriculum: Feedback and the Internet Argument
I’ve had this post brewing since the last Gaming Curriculum entry – and what a long time ago it was! – when we talked about behaviour management, and how you, the blogger/gamesmaster/gamer-about-town can get people to do something constructive. It’s been sitting around since then and recently I’ve come across more and more motivation to actually write it up and get it out there.
Have you ever come across someone who’s just wrong? Aggressively, thick-with-authority wrong, intoning blatant falsehoods and obvious misconceptions with the weight of holy writ?
Have you ever told them they’re wrong?
Has that ever resulted in an Internet fight?
Have you ever considered that that might not be their fault?
Today I’m here to help you to not start Internet fights. Or actual ones. Maybe.
From the Bilge: Salutations
It all started with idle chatter, as most disasters do.
“You keep using our conversations as post fodder,” I said. “That’s cool. Really. I appreciate that you have so much regard for my particular brand of…”
“‘Regard’ might be a bit much,” Von said, using his preternatural power to interrupt sentences over Facebook chat, and from a full ocean away no less. That magical bastard. “It’s more like…well, you’re familiar with that phrase, the one about throwing things at the wall to see what sticks? You’re like that. Like a wall. You’re just filled with wall-like qualities.”
“Whatever,” I said. “Don’t pretend. I’m the source of your best material! Heck, you don’t even use half of it. God. The Ward stuff alone.”
ACHTUNG! – IMPERIAL LITERATURE! (ALSO eBay!)
Well hi-di-hi there. Got me a couple of announcements to announce.
Firstly, if you happen to be after some Cryx, Necron, Lizardmen or Empire models, you can buy some of mine on eBay. Don’t panic, I’m not quitting any games, I’m just selling off some surplus-to-requirements material.
Secondly, if you happen to enjoy my battle reports, or if you happen to be interested in my fiction, I have a Direction for you to follow.
My battle reports, and any fan-fiction I happen to produce in the future, will be living on this community of writers and generally righteous folk. It is at present a small community, but that’s where you lot come in. Go. Read. Join. Comment. Write. Most of you write things, and most of you are quite good at it. Get over there. There’s a button on the right of this post that’ll take you straight to my profile there, and from there, finding content should be easy.
Go. Read. Enjoy.
Return of the Revenge of the Bride of Old Stuff Day (From 20,000 Fathoms?)

Old Stuff Day has rolled around again, and if there’s one thing it’s made clear to me, it’s that I had too much time on my hands this time last year.
Anyway, here we are again, plunging elbow-deep into the foul brown dishwater of the past, rummaging around in a desperate search for the shiny silver spoons that we know are in there SOMEWHERE. I’ve got three, one for each year that the blog’s been going:
The first Meta Gaming post I did, everything within which still holds true. The more things change, the more they stay the same…
My first contact with WFB.8, in which presentiments of doom (and missing my Vampire Counts) are already stirring. I still haven’t decided how I feel about it.
And finally, a post about how I think RPG world-building should work, i.e. don’t weigh it down with encyclopaedic cruft and don’t be afraid to show your work.
Happy Old Stuff Day, folks!
Project 365
Right.
Let’s consider those New Year’s Resolutions again, in the cold light of day.
GAME OVER will be going onto an ‘every three days’ schedule and I will only be checking YOUR blog, whatever it may be, on days when I’m doing a GAME OVER update. That frees up the three or four hours (small, of the morning, when my stupid sleep pattern has kicked in) I normally waste on reading blogs to actually Do Hobby. I won’t necessarily always Do Hobby at five in the morning every morning but I’ll be doing some every day, and to make sure that I actually DO Do Hobby every single day, I’ve signed up for Project 365. The most recent image will be appearing over there in the sidebar and you should click through it to see the archive if you’re that way inclined.
