In The Shadow Of The Valley Of Lulz
Our regular GM cancelled his Star Wars thang this week (something about having a new job and needing to sort himself out, although he was still up for playing) and, as is the custom, I took the driving seat for a one-off. Since it looked – at the time – as though we’d have both the players from my last dalliance with AFF available, and since I’ve been thinking about it recently, I decided to give it another spin. Of course, neither of the prior players were actually in a fit state to play, so rather than disrupt what they’d been up to I decided to run something on the other side of the world.
Advanced Fighting Fantasy!
Roleplaying! I do that sometimes. Time to stick a spanner in all this Warmahordesing and indulge in a spot of variety, I think.
All has been quiet on the RP front since last year’s Dark Heresy shenanigans, which were cut unfortunately short when I had to drop everything and move north for work reasons. Once relocated, I started testing the waters for suitable roleplayers (I prefer to get to know people before I run RPGs for them – personality clashes make for a frustrating experience and I’m enough of a snob familiar enough with my own preferences to be a little selective in my player choices) and their preference in systems. The Dice and Decks crowd came out in favour of something relatively simple (suitable for one novice roleplayer and one who’s somewhat rusty, and then there’s me and my profound dislike of complex systems getting in the way when I’m trying to focus on pace and drama) and heroic-fantasy-ish, which made my little eyes light up with glee.
